This post is at least a week late, and I could make endless excuses of why I didn't write it sooner. But that's pointless because really I just didn't, I don't know why. But better later than never! Soo..about 2018.. 2018 was an interesting year. I still really don't know what to think about it. I feel like my presence in my breed did fade, but I was also still around at the same time. I stopped focusing so much on how many "likes" my rabbits or posts got, and focused on taking care of my rabbits and going through my herd to keep only the best and keep making better. Apparently it worked, because I had a good year on the show tables with several BOBs, a BOS at Ohio Mini Convention, A RIS and several honorable mentions. I also made it to National Convention once again, and had a ton of fun with the senior team, which happens to be made up of my best friends. I set goals for National Convention and achieved them, I won 1st Place Senior Breed ID, National Winner of Limited Management Contest and was 2nd Runner Up for Queen. The Senior Judging and Breed ID teams also did well with 2nd Runner Up in both judging and Breed ID. I was also the Queen at Ohio Mini Convention, taking home the state wins for both Senior Judging and Breed ID there. Also held my first office in a rabbit related group, I'm currently the Vice President of the OSRBA Youth and hoping to run for an office again this coming year at Mini Convention. Unfortunately, I did not have many litters in 2018 and hopefully that changes this year. Though when I did have litters, they were consistent with quality animals. I also decided I am taking meat pens to my county fair next year, and have acquired a New Zealand buck thanks to the kindness of Amanda Hutcheson, and will be working on getting some does soon. I also acquired two chocolate based Holland bucks, in hopes that I can start working with chocolates again. Fingers crossed! Another highlight of 2018 - in the fall I collected signatures and applied for my registrar's application and got approved, and will be testing sometime this month. I'm nervous but excited. So at this point usually I'd be going over my goals from the past year and seeing what I accomplished and what I didn't...well looking back, apparently I "forgot" to set any goals. I would like to set a few goals for this upcoming year in my rabbit project. 1. Produce chocolates again - I finally should have the genetics to do so, so fingers crossed. 2. Win BOB with a homegrown - The highest I've gotten with a homegrown is still BOS - because when I do win BOB, it's with Fonzie or Al. 3. Grand Fonzie, Dyan, Miss Believer and Al - This is something I've needed to do for a while now, and this year I WILL do it. 4. Go to National Convention in Reno, Nevada 5. Successfully defend my position as OSRBA Queen at Ohio Mini Convention this year 6. Improve shoulder width and bone length in Hollands 7. Start posting more often on all platforms, especially YouTube and Facebook. 2018 was a good year, I had a lot of fun focusing more on my overall rabbit knowledge and skills with the ARBA youth competitions, and if you're a youth rabbit person in 2019, I highly recommend getting involved. There are tons of contests you can compete in, some of them you don't even have to attend National Convention to compete. Check out your district teams, or maybe your state has clubs. Otherwise, maybe you can start something up in your area! Youth Contests and Team Ohio have made a huge change in my life, I've made lifelong friends and learned so much, including study, writing and interview skills.
With that being said, I hope everyone had a good 2018 and here's to more cute babies and good times with friends in 2019! |
