About The Breed
Holland Lops are the smallest lop ear breed, they weigh 2-4 pounds, though some get as big as 5-6lbs! They are characterized by their chunky thick build, including a bulldog head, tree trunk legs and short, thick lop ears.
Holland Lops are a dwarf breed, that means that they carry the dwarf gene. A rabbit with one dwarf gene is a true dwarf, which is more likely to have that desired bulldog head, thick build and short ears. A rabbit with no dwarf gene is a false dwarf, these may have longer ears, a thinner head and not be as thickly built. When breeding two true dwarfs you may get peanuts, this is a rabbit with the double dwarf gene, which is fatal because it causes digestive problems.
Holland Lops are a very popular breed, mainly because they are adorable and their personalities are awesome. No Holland is the same, they all have different personalities, and they all seem to adore attention and love playing. Occasionally you get a shy one though, but they usually warm up with time.
Hollands come in MANY colors, and they have many recognized (showable) colors, though the most popular color is Black Tort. When breeding Hollands, it's fine to work on color, but make sure the type is there too. You may use some more common colors (black tort, black) in your color program to bring in type, that's perfectly okay and I even recommend it!
